Last-Minute Gifting Tips with Glynn Connolly from Oh So Gifted

When our team discovered Glynn Connolly’s company, Oh So Gifted, we were all pretty much ready to hire her. Oh So Gifted takes care of shopping, wrapping and shipping gifts for everyone on your list, for any occasion—so that, in Glynn’s words, she does “all the work, and you get all the credit.”

We asked her a few questions to get the scoop on why she started Oh So Gifted, and a little advice on gift ideas for the hard-to-shop-for people on our lists (and for all the last-minute holiday gifters out there). Enjoy!

“People seem to get so stressed about something that should be fun! I like the idea of being part of people’s special occasions and hope I am making them more fun and less stressful.”

Tell us a little bit about Oh So Gifted, and what gave you the idea to start this unique (and brilliant) business?

My friends would always ask me for gift advice, so I knew there was a need. People seem to get so stressed about something that should be fun! I like the idea of being part of people’s special occasions and hope I am making them more fun and less stressful. Also, my mom is an expert wrapper so I learned from a young age and have always appreciated a well-wrapped gift.

What’s your top tip for finding the perfect gift for the one who’s hard to shop for?

Think about what they ARE like, not just WHAT they like, if that makes sense. Lots of times people tell me things like “loves wine,” which is not exactly a defining personality trait. I love when people provide descriptions like “not one for nostalgia.” Thinking about the recipient’s personality more than their interests makes it easier to figure out what type of gift could add to their life.

If you are shopping for someone you don’t know very well but want the gift to feel personal, then give them something that is personal to YOU—your favorite game, food, beauty product, candle etc.

Where are your go-to kinds of places to source gifts—antique stores, local boutiques, random google searches, etc.?

Chairish is my favorite place to search for vintage gifts. It has been especially helpful this year when it is harder to shop in person. I love that you can search locally and pick up. Plus, it is a great way to support small businesses all over the country. I definitely have a handful of local boutiques that almost always have something good, and that I just love browsing. I also like to see who the cool, creative makers I follow on Instagram follow. Chances are, they follow other cool, creative makers.

Do you have any tips for people gifting on a budget (or who may have lots of people on their list)?

A special version of an everyday item is always a good idea. Or a favorite little luxury that you personally enjoy. I would also say the wrapping makes a big difference with little gifts. Even when the gift is not that fancy, nice wrapping shows you took some time to make it special.

What’s your favorite category of gift to shop for?

Hmmmm indulgent gifts?  Is that a category? I love fancy versions of everyday things—chocolate, olive oil, hand soap etc.

And a last fun one, because we’re dying to know—what’s the craziest gift request you’ve had yet?

I haven’t had any super crazy requests, but this year someone in England wanted to put a company logo on a pumpkin pie and have it shipped to the Cayman Islands.
